Cardones National Park

From Salta we drove west across the Cardones National Park to the Colome Vineyard Hotel. The cardones are the large cacti, which stand like sentries protecting the area. Growth of the cardon is so slow that its white flowers, which bloom in bunches, only appear when the plant is some 50 years old.

The high altitude Tin Tin valley in the park is quite spectacular and here is a photo of the extremely straight road, which follows the route of the Inca highway, so important to their communication.
